May carries a special kind of tenderness. Gardens are in bloom, the days are longer and Mother’s Day is around the corner. It’s a time that reminds us of growth, care and the strength in nurturing something meaningful. Whether that’s a family, a neighborhood, a work of art, or a bold new idea, it all begins with someone choosing to show up and tend to it with love.
In this issue, we’re celebrating creators and connectors who do just that. Our front feature highlights Atelier Design, a woman-owned studio crafting spaces that feel both luxurious and lived-in. Homes that hold stories and style with equal measure. Our center spread introduces you to Fresh Sam, a visionary designer whose wearable art is woven with community and courage. And in our “Meet Your Neighbor” feature, we spend time with Wash Park resident, Apple Hultz, a trans artist and advocate contributing to Denver’s cultural fabric through their work with the Biennial of the Americas.
Each of these features reminds us that nurturing creativity, identity, and community is its own kind of motherhood—demanding presence, patience, and fierce love.
Thanks, as always, for being part of the Urban Life family.
Your neighbors,
Shaleen and Sam DeStefano
