The design world has been having a bit of a revolution and we’re so excited for the changes! Color, curves and classics with a twist, are back in full force, and we love the move to bolder design as we head toward the new year.  These are a few trends that we’re incorporating in kitchens, baths, and throughout the home:

• Slatted wood panels for range hoods, cabinet doors, and island panels are on our minds. This technique is visually appealing and creates a simple, modern detail that can be used with any wood type or painted finish. It’s especially effective for creating soft curves on islands and end panels—and we’ve also carried it onto mudroom walls for an updated take on beaded board.

• Speaking of painted finishes…when it comes to kitchen cabinetry, there’s a shift beyond tried-and-true neutrals like white and gray. While navy remains popular, more lively blue tones and subtle greens, teals, and some primary pops of color have been popular – especially yellows. Paired with softer white tones, these colors really shine, and allow kitchens to take on a much more personal and curated feel.

• Modern twists on classic styles have also been working their way into our projects. Consider incorporating industrial, metal-frame doors and subtle matte finishes in traditional kitchen designs. We love the look of a straight grain wood, slab door in a turn-of-the-century bungalow for a simple loft-like vibe. An unexpected pop of color always makes a statement. Think a few terra cotta doors in an otherwise neutral palette.

• Another aesthetic we’re embracing is Organic Modern. This includes clean lines and crisp white elements layered with natural materials like wood and linen textiles in softer tones of sandy grays and earthy clays. These spaces are anchored by subtle rustic features such as ceiling beams (think vigas!) and authentic clay floor tiles, wood countertops, and a return to natural stone. Many of the details that we have seen in the farmhouse and mid-century trends of the last few years can be incorporated into this subdued design direction – we’re loving some walnut mixed in with our quartersawn white oak!

Some general housekeeping as well…You’ve probably noticed that South Broadway is now amid our latest – and hopefully last – construction project. We’ve got new neighbors from the City of Denver and a new RTA parking lot (Broadway Station) that we hope to see filling up with all your commuter cars soon.

As the world around us evolves, we’ve undergone our own changes inside and out. With our new tenants and talented design partners, Studio M and Wendy Lee Design (www.studiomdenver.com + wendyleedesigndenver.com), and our building’s new name, Studio 725. This better represents the variety of work we can provide in just one space. We are nearing completion of our showroom expansion – with a view of bustling Broadway – and look forward to welcoming you for a tour of our new space.  Coffee on us, of course!

We’re also very excited to be part of Project Spread Hope, with a Koko Brentano mural proudly displayed on our north side wall for everyone to see as they drive up. Give us a “honk” or a “like” on IG.  We love the movement and your support.

Enjoy the sunny days, cooler evenings, and beautiful light that fall brings to Colorado.

Love, from your neighbors at Kitchens on Broadway.
