It’s nearly mid-January which if we’re being honest is about the time that we realize that our lofty resolutions for the new year are not going to happen. Why do we do this to ourselves? We make unrealistic goals that inevitably set us up for failure.

Putting more pressure on ourselves in an already hectic world is unhealthy. So let’s resolve to do our best to make healthier choices in all facets of our lives. Getting derailed is a part of the process of growth. Don’t let it stop you from getting back on track.

Neil Gaiman, an American author said it best, “I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something. So that’s my wish… Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

So here’s to stepping outside of our comfort zones, making mistakes, while aiming not for perfection, but our best. Seems manageable, right? Right.
