We’ve grown used to the idea that most news headlines are predictably devastating. From the Supreme Court rulings to climate change, how are we supposed to keep our chin up? One coping mechanism that we choose to follow is, to find the good. This was one of the driving forces behind the making of this magazine, and this project has not let us down when it comes to connecting us with kind, thoughtful people. One such person, is Kim Dufford (her sculpture pictured). We have lived less than a mile apart for 20 years but have never met, until now. Her art, welcoming spirit, and bright perspective, were the bridge to this new friendship. You can read about her inside this issue.

Annie Houston,  yet another Wash Park neighbor, fills us in on the growing changes of her garden center, Birdsall. She and her daughter Morgan, have invited a handful of new small, women-owned businesses to join them inside

the walls of their expansive boutique. This generous dedication to connecting with the community, underlines the importance of supporting local and getting to know the people who dedicate their lives to their craft.

Inside these pages, we also introduce you to Annie Decamp, although, many of you may need no introduction at all. She has been a Denver artist for nearly three decades. Her studio only a few blocks from our home, serves as another reminder to take the time to meet your neighbors.

Each month we will continue in our effort to bring you some good news. We know first-hand, it can be easy to lose sight of sometimes.

Your neighbors,

Shaleen and Sam DeStefano
