We recently re-watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the 983rd time. It’s funny, Ferris remains the modern day hero giving us a glimpse of what we all want, which, of course, is to escape. A cultural staple, it was well ahead of it’s time, because it tackles the whole idea of living each day to the fullest. As corny and over used as this may sound, it really can be a challenge to stop and look around, lift our heads up from the routine and appreciate the minute details.
Maybe it’s because we have kids now, houses to maintain, jobs and responsibilities, but it spoke to us more clearly than ever before. It was a perfect reminder that every once in a while, you need to take the day off. And not just any day off, like really take the day off. Dive into the day head first, with zero plan or schedule and if you’re really brave, do it without your cell phone. I mean honestly, the last time we really felt free was in an age where we weren’t strapped to our devices.
So with that in mind, we challenge you to take a Ferris Day before the end of the summer. String together unplanned experiences that lead to lasting memories. And if you’re really feeling brave, don’t even share it on social media. I know, right? The horror!
So maybe you don’t own a 1961 Ferrari 250GT, neither do we, but we have put the idea of this FREE day in our back pocket and you better believe we will spend it wisely. What would your perfect Ferris Day look like? Would you get outdoors? Explore hidden gems of our city? And even more important, are you Ferris or Cameron? I’m pretty sure more of us relate to Cameron in this scenario as we reluctantly forge ahead with no plan, but hopefully the realization is clear in the end that a break would lead to the best day ever.
