THRU AUGUST 31 – Alto Gallery

Alto Gallery is pleased to welcome back Rice for his second solo exhibition at Alto Gallery, this time with a new series of minimalist, graffiti-inspired abstract paintings. Quentin Rice was born in Altus, Oklahoma, I started drawing at a young age. I would try to draw the cartoons in newspaper comic strips. As a teenager I would draw wildlife, landscapes, and characters from my favorite Marvel comics. In 1993 I began drawing graffiti and the rest is history. I moved to Denver, Colorado in 1994 where my love for painting and drawing graffiti continued. Through this art form, I developed my skill as an artist. When painting abstract works, my process is similar to when I create a graffiti style. The letter form is still present in my abstract piece, but not necessarily meant to be recognized by the viewer. My goal is to create an original composition by playing with color, space, and patterns. I want to push my style beyond the letter structure, while at the same time using letter structure.
