If you live in the neighborhood, by now you are familiar with the Washington Park Home Tour. This highly anticipated Wash Park tradition not only showcases five uniquely beautiful homes, but it also contributes to the strength of our neighborhood by supporting one of the top performing public schools in Denver, Steele Elementary. Without the money raised from this tour, the school’s arts and enrichment programs would not be possible. Last year alone, they raised over $50,000 to assist in funding second educators in the classroom. In addition, 5% of the proceeds go directly to the Homeless Education Network. HEN has been providing educational services and support to students experiencing homelessness in Denver Public Schools since 1989.

This year, the Wash Park Home Tour has selected a wide variety of homes, ranging from a renovated family home, to a new build Denver Square. The home pictured here is located on the 700 block of South Gaylord St. The exterior and interior pair nicely to create a family friendly, comfortable and stylish living space. With white washed brick, slate blue shutters and gas light lanterns it is reminiscent of a cottage in the English or French countryside making this home an urban Coloradan gem.

While each home offers a different aesthetic appealing to our design-nerd tendencies, we are eager to see the century old home on the list, as we are drawn to the historic homes of Classic Wash Park. This home celebrates its 100th birthday this year, and the homeowners, one of whom grew up in the house, have lovingly restored and renovated this classic bungalow to feature the best of its historic details while incorporating modern touches.

What makes this year a little different, is that the hard working Home Tour team have partnered with our beloved S. Gaylord Shops, and will be hosting a Street Fair on the 900 block of S. Gaylord, featuring food, music, plant sale, arts and crafts for the kids and much more! You can purchase your tickets in advance at www.washparkhometour.org or the day of the event. Children under 5 are free. We’ll see you there!
